Word is, Joshua Jackson and longtime girlfriend Diane Kruger are now residing on the fringes of matrimony.
A bystander says that Jackson was overheard saying that he was looking for the "perfect engagement gift," right before plunking down $45,000 at a charity auction in Monaco for a diamond necklace that is obviously meant to be worn by a Helen of Troy type.
The comely couple may as well be engaged, right? They've been dating for almost six years!
Hang onto your Pacey posters, kids, because this rumor is...
Kruger's rep tells E! News that the German actress, who was previously married to French actor-director Giullaume Canet, is not engaged to Jackson.
The pair have been fending off stories about being engaged—or even already married—for years. Jackson called himself and Kruger "solidly together" in 2008, and when quizzed last month by Chelsea Handler about rings that the pair were wearing, he explained that they were not planning to tie the knot, but wore those rings as a sign of their "commitment."
But before you blame the gander, remember what the goose had to say.
"Without sounding pessimistic, I learned that I don't believe in marriage," Kruger told Glamour in February 2011. "I believe in a commitment that you make in your heart. There's no paper that will make you stay. A guy friend of mine said, and it made a lot of sense, that people should get married at the end of the road, not the beginning."
