Now Ed McMahon, the beloved, chortling Johnny Carson sidekick and longtime product pitchman, is dealing with yet another crisis: The Griffin Group, an investment branch of the late Merv Griffin’s business concern, is suing octogenarian McMahon for failing to return a $100,000 loan.
Beyond-the-grave Soup Blog sources spoke with Griffin, who died in 2007, at La Magnifique, the exclusive, Heaven-based resort that the wealthy entrepreneur recently opened in conjunction with God. “This place is fabulous!” gushed the late entertainer and noted hotelier. “We’re offering a deliciously relaxed atmosphere of understated elegance on over 200 acres of clouds that affords the exquisite pampering you’ve died to deserve.”
When queried on the McMahon issue, Griffin had this to say: “Oh yes! Ed was a dear friend and a fine, fine man. A hundred thousand dollars means nothing to me now, because in Heaven money is free! But since I’m dead, there’s not much I can do for Eddie.” Griffin concluded the interview by saying, “I’ll mention this to Johnny. He’s my doubles partner and we’re taking on John Lennon and Paul Lynde—it's a match made in heaven! And that's a lovely sport shirt you're wearing."
