If ever anyone was in need of a little levity, it was Jennifer Hudson this weekend.

Which is no doubt why, the day after a Chicago jury found William Balfour guilty of the triple murders of her mother, brother and nephew, the Oscar winner took a much-needed break from the harsh reality of the past few weeks and celebrated with a fun-filled trip to Six Flags.

Along for the ride(s) at the Chicago-area Great America theme park was Hudson's supportive fiancé, David Otunga. So what'd they get up to?

Jennifer, described by park officials as "nice and relaxed" during the excursion, spent roughly six hours on the grounds, lining up for "mostly thrill rides," among them the new X Flight roller coaster at the Gurnee amusement park.

"Jennifer and her family and some of the crew had an enjoyable day at the park," Six Flags spokesman Brandon Bruce told E! News. "We are glad we did all we could to provide that for them."

While photos of the couple—who enjoyed the day out with various friends and Hudson family members—popped up by fellow thrill-seekers on Twitter, the group was able to maneuver around the park relatively privately and largely unapproached as they were escorted to the rides by security guards.

If anyone deserved a little special treatment this weekend, it was Hudson.
