Sheree Whitfield is saying bye-bye to the series that made her a household name.

"While I enjoyed working with Bravo and the women on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, I feel that it is an appropriate time for me to move onto the next step in my career," Whitfield told E! News. "The new direction of the show no longer represents what I am passionate about, and that is empowering women."

Bravo confirmed the reality TV star's departure in a statement released on Wednesday.

"We have enjoyed working with Sheree as part of The Real Housewives of Atlanta," it read. "We wish her all the best in the future."

As for what that future holds, it remains to be seen, but Whitfield said she is "refocusing my energy and brand on health, fitness and living a positive lifestyle."

Whitfield also addressed the rumors that she was actually fired by the network.

"I understand people need to fabricate stories to attract readers," she said. "The parting was mutual on both my part and Bravo and have nothing but kind words for them and ladies on RHOA."
