It's a mad, mad world, all right. And Jon Hamm is just trying to bring a little sanity to it, particularly when it comes to the media firestorm that erupted when people—including Kim Kardashian—were rubbed the wrong way by some of his pop culture criticisms.
Well, OK, by just the one criticism: particularly the one in which he namechecked the reality star and then went on to proclaim that "stupidity" and being a "f--king idiot" had proven to be quite the valuable commodities in this day and age.
Turns out, it was all a misunderstanding! Um, kind of...
Speaking to E! News at last night's Mad Men-centric PaleyFest panel, Hamm openly discussed the comments he made in Elle UK last week.
"It's surprising to me that it has become remotely a story," he told E! News. "I don't know Ms. Kardashian, I know her public persona.
"What I said was meant to be more on pervasiveness of something in our culture, not personal, but she took offense to it and that is her right."
Not exactly an apology, but a clarification that should go some way to easing Kim's hurt feelings.
On Monday, Kardashian broke her silence on the actor's widely publicized remarks and, in doing so, kept her feet firmly planted on the high road.
"I respect Jon and I am a firm believer that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that not everyone takes the same path in life," she said. "Calling someone who runs their own businesses, is part of a successful TV show, produces, writes, designs and creates 'stupid,' is in my opinion careless."
Erm, all is forgiven?
