Tim Burton is giving new meaning to the term "man's best friend."

In this brand-spankin' new trailer for the director's animated flick Frankenweenie, a kid named Viktor decides to dig up his recently deceased dog Sparky and bring the beloved pooch back to life, much to the chagrin of the folks in his neighborhood.

Then again, would you expect anything less from the guy responsible for Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride and the upcoming Dark Shadows?

While obviously inspired by the 1931 Boris Karloff classic, Frankenstein, Burton's stop-motion project is also a feature-length remake of his own original 1984 short of the same name.

Featuring the vocal talents of Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O'Hara and Martin Landau, this 90-minute version is scheduled to hit theaters on Oct. 5.
