The queen has her corgis, the duchess has her cocker spaniel. This is clearly the beginning of a beautiful four-legged friendship.

Though the temporarily solo Kate Middleton has been spending the days since her Prince William's deployment generally do-gooding it up around the U.K., the royal enjoyed some much-deserved time off (though obviously not from the paparazzi) this week, when she strolled around Kensington Gardens with her new puppy Lupo and another pal of the non-canine variety.

The dynamic duo was spotted strolling around the lush greens that surround Kensington Palace, her home base while in London. She's been spending most of her time in the city, rather than Anglesey, Wales, since Wills up and went to the Falklands for his RAF training.

The 30-year-old and her friend were all smiles while they tromped through the path. The fashionista played it lowkey for her outing, wearing a familiar off-duty ensemble of a shearling L.K. Bennett jacket, hat, skinny jeans and her trusty Le Chameau rain boots.

During a stop at Oxford's Art Room earlier this week, "Miss Catherine," as she was dubbed by students revealed the hitherto secret name of her black pup, Lupo. No reason was given for the moniker selection, which is Italian for "wolf," though the fact that it's adorable seems justification enough for us.
