Add Diddy to the ranks of musical superstars who are lining up to pay tribute to Whitney Houston.

While sitting down with Ellen DeGeneres this week, the conversation inevitably turned to the late singer, and the rapper was quick to lavish praise on the icon and explained just how far back the surprising duo went.

"I did [know her well]," he said. "I actually, when I was growing up in the music industry before I had success, I somehow got on her wedding invitation. So I was at her wedding, but I didn't really know her, but it was one of the hottest things in town for the music industry.

"I didn't crash the party," he added quickly. "Somehow, you know, I was a hustler. I got my name on there, me plus one. I was just like, 'Oh my God. I'm at Whitney Houston's wedding.' I was a big Bobby Brown fan."

And despite their chance crossing of paths earlier on, the duo eventually came to know each other better, and Diddy clearly held Whitney in high regards.

"Throughout the years I got to meet her. She was so full of life. So full of just joy. She always made you feel that she noticed you and recognized you and spoke to you. She'll definitely truly be missed."

And not just by Diddy.

"It's heartbreaking, really, it's very, very sad," Ellen said.

Houston's funeral, which will be livestreamed on E! Online, will take place this Saturday at noon ET.
