Kim Kardashian replaced by a dog? Come now!
"We have to establish Skechers as more than a lifestyle company," Skechers president Leonard Amato told USA Today this week, explaining that the brand is looking to establish itself as a go-to for "high-tech" footwear.
And now the story making the rounds is that Skechers, which featured Kardashian in a sexy Super Bowl commercial last year, is going in a different direction. A canine direction.
While it's true that the E! star has become a former spokeswoman for Skechers, and that a French bulldog racing a pack of greyhounds will be the pièce de résistance in this year's ad, was Kardashian really cast aside so flippantly?
Hang onto your spandex, because this rumor is...
Skechers has nothing but the kindest things to say about working with the Kardashians, and in no way is the company characterizing her replacement as, well, a replacement.
"Kim Kardashian has had a tremendously positive effect on the Skechers brand," gushed a rep for the Shape-Up maker. "Not only did Kim's Skechers Super Bowl ad generate over 1.6 billion positive media impressions for Skechers, but she played a big part in Skechers moving up last year from 388 to 99 among companies with the highest brand trust."
OK, thanks for the industry jargon. But why isn't Kim the big Skechers star anymore?
"While Kim's contract with Skechers simply came to an end at the end of last year, we continue to have a great relationship with her as we do with all the other talent who have worked with the brand over the years<" the rep continued. "To say that she was 'dropped' or 'replaced' is misleading and untrue. Skechers has enjoyed and continues to enjoy the relationship with Kim, and in fact we continue to discuss ways that we may work together in the future."
Now that we know there are no hard feelings... Is it bad of us to say we can't wait to see a bulldog racing greyhounds?
