Kate Middleton looked thoroughly modern at the Millies tonight.

With her tuxedoed hubby Prince William and brother-in-law Prince Harry on either side of her, the Duchess of Cambridge stole the red-carpet portion of the evening at the Night of Heroes: The Sun Military Awards, held at the Imperial War Museum in London (aka the Millies!).

Middleton wore a strapless black velvet gown trimmed with ruffles (and as slim in the bodice as ever) by Alexander McQueen—a bit of an '80s homage updated for the now with colorful gemstones that she received as a wedding gift instead of ostentatious Dynasty diamonds.

But after the royals had filed out of their chauffeur-driven vehicles, they got to the real business at hand.

In its fourth year, the Military Awards were established by Prince Charles. Monday, they honored 11 members of the United Kingdom's armed forces for their heroism during wartime.

"The whole country wants to say thank you," Prime Minister David Cameron said at the start of the ceremony.

William and Harry currently serve in the military, as did their dad before them in both the navy and the Royal Air Force.

Also on the guest list were Gordon Ramsay and David Beckham, who stopped for a photo on the red carpet with sons Brooklyn and Romeo.

Earlier in the day, Kate and William had lunch with Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace.
