"I feel bad for him," the Glee star told me this weekend at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center's 40th anniversary gala (more on that later). "I wasn't offended. I'm OK."
Lynch added: "I think humor is such a personal thing and you put a microphone in somebody's face, they're going to say something that offends somebody."
Ratner stepped down from producing the Academy Awards last week after he used a gay slur during a Q&A in Hollywood about his latest flick, Tower Heist. Less than 24 hours later, Eddie Murphy pulled out as host.
The Academy quickly replaced Ratner with Brian Grazer and Murphy with hosting veteran Billy Crystal.
While Robin Williams told me before the awards show turmoil began that he had been looking forward to Murphy's debut, he's just as psyched by Crystal.
"I think [Murphy] would have been great. It's just sad that he's not," Williams said at yesterday's premiere of Happy Feet Two. "But Billy will do great...He'll kick it hard. He's so excited. I talked to him. He's really ready. He's in the zone."
