There is no doubt among Michael Jackson's family that justice was served today.

A smiling La Toya Jackson told E! News that she was "very happy" with the guilty verdict for Dr. Conrad Murray, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's death from an overdose of the anesthetic propofol.

Outside the courthouse, dozens of sign-wielding fans had erupted into cheers. "This is the best day of my life!" one ebullient woman told E! in reaction to the verdict.

But though the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office got its desired result, there is one thorn sticking in its side.

"A completely perpetually failed system is now in place, so it will be difficult to achieve an appropriate sentence of incarceration for Dr. Conrad Murray," said District Attorney Steve Cooley, referring to new state legislation that classifies involuntary manslaughter as a crime punishable by time in county jail rather than state prison.

Murray, who has been remanded to custody without bail until sentencing on Nov. 29, will lose his medical license in California and is facing a maximum of four years in state prison. With the new statute, he could end up serving significantly less time behind bars thanks to chronic overcrowding.

Cooley said he "would hope" that the medical boards in Nevada and Texas, where Murray is also licensed to practice, will honor his conviction in California and see to it that the consequences of Murray's actions are felt there, as well.

"I want to thank [Judge Michael Pastor] for overseeing a fair and well-run trial," said Deputy District Attorney David Walgren, who headed up the prosecution. "I want to thank the jury. They were so diligent and respectful of the system. Our sympathies also go out to the Jackson family for the loss they have suffered—not [just] a pop icon, but a son and a brother."

Added Cooley: "Walgren and [Deputy D.A.] Deborah Brazil, both veteran trial attorneys, worked closely with detectives and coroner's personnel during the lengthy investigation. They consulted with a wide variety of relevant experts. They put together a compelling case based upon competent evidence. Their presentation of evidence in court was superb...[They] exemplify the dedication, professionalism and discipline of prosecutors in the L.A. County District Attorney's office. Their work serves as a model for others."

Murray's attorneys have not spoken to the press since the verdict was read.

"VICTORY!!!!!!," La Toya tweeted afterward, along with, more cryptically, "Michael I love you and I will continue to fight until ALL are brought to justice!"

"Thank you EVERYONE for your love and support! It will ALWAYS be appreciated!" she added.

"Yes," Jermaine Jackson said simply when asked if Murray's conviction made him happy.

"Justice was good today," tweeted sister Janet Jackson, who didn't attend today's verdict due to a tour commitment in Australia.
