Mother Monster is doing something rather, well, motherly.

Lady Gaga announced today that she is launching the Born This Way Foundation, a non-profit organization that will focus on youth empowerment by addressing such issues as self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development.

The "Yoü and I" singer is partnering up with several groups for this new endeavor including the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, The California Endowment as well as the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, according to a press release.

"Together we hope to establish a standard of Bravery and Kindness, as well as a community worldwide that protects and nurtures others in the face of bullying and abandonment," Gaga said in a statement.

The Grammy winner will be joined by her mom, Cynthia Germanotta, in leading and directing the foundation, which is scheduled to have its official launch sometime in 2012.
