Talk about a royal bummer.

We can't think of anything we'd love to see more than dapper duchess Kate Middleton showing just how fashion-forward she is in Vogue. Which is why we shed a tear (or two) when a Kensington Palace spokesperson pooh-poohed the modeling gig.

But fear not, fashionistas, 'cause we hear otherwise...

"I'm sure it will happen, despite what the palace is saying," a source thisclose to the royals spills.

So what makes our spy so sure that Kate will overrule the palace's Vogue veto?

Mario Testino, the photog set to shoot the swanky editorial.

"Kate is known to be a big fan of Testino, and I strongly believe she'll play ball for this," a second palace source says.

And not only is Testino a pal of Kate's (he snapped her engagement pics after all), but he also shot some truly divine photos of the late Princess Diana. Seems like it should be a royal rite of passage of some sort, no?

Here's hoping it'll be a shoot with a bit of pizzazz. We know the duchess is classy and all, but why not mix it up and really wow us? Mario has shot Lady Gaga (among many fabulous other folks), after all.

Either way, we can't wait to see how this plays out. But remember: What Anna Wintour, the queen of Vogue, wants, Anna gets...eventually.
