Mackenzie Phillips can start taking it one day at a time on the outside.
Having spent the night in the slammer following a drug bust, the former sitcom star was released from Van Nuys Jail Thursday at 2:30 p.m. after posting $10,000 bail, E! News has confirmed.
The 48-year-old actress-singer was brought to the facility Wednesday and booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance after admitting to officers she had a "drug problem"—and was found to be holding small amounts of both cocaine and heroin while trying to get through security at Los Angeles International Airport.
Along with the requisite handful of bail bondsmen, Phillips received a visit in jail from half-sister Bijou Phillips and Bijou's boyfriend, Danny Masterson, yesterday afternoon.
Phillips was arrested early Wednesday at LAX after security screeners found what police have identified as small amounts of heroin and cocaine.
According to the police report, which first appeared on TMZ.com and was confirmed by a law enforcement source, Phillips copped to her drug-taking misstep even before she was hauled away.
Airport screeners said the star seemed suspicious from the outset, per the report, "continuously moving" as employees scanned her for a second time with a wand metal detector. One official even told her to "stop moving and stand still."
But the screeners were unable to finish the search due to Phillips' inability to remain still. However, her excess energy helped hasten her downfall—her movement shifted the bag of drugs she had been hiding on her person.
"When Phillips sat down, a plastic bag containing an unknown white substance later identified...as cocaine fell down her right pant leg," the police report states. It added that a small foil ball containing what proved to be heroin followed self-exposing suit.
Shortly before the drugs were in full view, per officers, Phillips "spontaneously said, 'I'm holding.' "
As officers conducted a more thorough search, Phillips reportedly became even more confessional, admitting to using heroin earlier that morning. During a strip search, an officer asked Phillips if she was diabetic after spotting "extensive" marks on her arms.
"She said, 'No, I am healthy except for my drug problem,' " the report reads.
There has been no comment from Phillips or her reps on the incident. The actress is due to appear in court Friday morning to answer to the felony charge.
