Sam Poueu, one of the more popular stars from season nine of NBC's The Biggest Loser, is in critical condition in a San Francisco hospital after falling several stories off a building on Sept. 3.

Here's what we know:

It's not known exactly what led to the fall, but Poueu is currently in intensive care unit being treated for a pelvic injury, torn ligaments, a punctured lung and a broken leg.

Sources tell TMZ that he is conscious, however, and can recognize visitors.

A rep for the network issued a statement to E! News saying, "Sam Poueu is a beloved member of our Biggest Loser family and we are keeping him and his family in our thoughts and prayers."

Poueu's fellow contestant, 27-year-old Ashley Johnson, also expressed her support in an update to fans on her Facebook page.

"Sam Poueu is making great improvements everyday! God is answering our prayers and Sam is fighting!" she wrote. "Please keep the prayers coming. He is still in critical condition, but is fighting like hell and is impressing the Doctors like he impressed all of us on the Biggest Loser!"

Poueu's cousin, Koli Palu, who also appeared on Loser with him, also took to Facebook; while declining to discuss the circumstances surrounding the accident, he thanked everyone for their love and prayers and asked them to pray for Poueu.

Here's hoping he makes a swift recovery.
