What a fash-hole!
Tim Gunn took a major sartorial misstep last week, when he and George Lopez teetered dangerously close to coming off sexist when they felt the need (like every late night show, oh, five or so years ago) to dissect Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's pantsuits.
Unfortunately for them, it didn't take long for this nation's Fashionista-in-Chief Lady Gaga to catch wind of their remarks and defend the female-empowering politico to the fullest.
That's right, Tim Gunn just messed with the wrong style icon.
Last week, the normally spot-on Project Runway mentor appeared on Lopez Tonight, and after speaking briefly about Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin was asked by the host to talk about the style of the Democratic powerhouses—namely, Clinton.
"She's the secretary of state…why must she dress that way? I think she's confused about her gender, all these big, baggy, menswear, tailored pantsuit," he said, to groans and the beginnings of boos from the studio audience. "No, I'm really serious. She wears pantsuits that are unflattering."
Unflattering outfits are one thing, questioning someone's gender identity is over a pantsuit penchant is quite another—though as it happens, both are right up the alley of Lady Gaga.
Her ladyship sat down with the ladies of The View this morning, and one of the hot topics brought up during her guest cohosting was, of course, Gunn's comments.
"I love Tim Gunn, but this is…I don't know what he's talking about," Joy Behar said.
"He's being a bully, I think," Lady Gaga added. "He's being a bully. I think Hillary Clinton has more important things to think about than her hemline."
After waiting for the audience's applause to die down, Gaga lightened the tone a bit.
"I certainly don't," she joked. "I certainly only care about my hemline."
Well, that, and speaking up for the style choices of women everywhere. You go, Gaga!
