Choosing between Edward or Jacob isn't a pressing issue in Paul McDonald's life. In fact the American Idol castoff has never even heard of the Twilight films' famous vampire and werewolf.

"I haven't seen any of the Twilights yet," the crooning cutie recently admitted. Surprising, but certainly nothing to be ashamed of—except that McDonald's new girlfriend Nikki Reed stars in the massive franchise.

So did McDonald put his foot in his talented mouth?

Not really. Instead, the Idol eliminee called his new squeeze "ridiculously talented" and insisted he will soon be seeing all of her vampire flicks.

"I support her whatever she's doing," said a smiling McDonald. "Now I have to get Twilight and watch them all."

As for finding out his girlfriend is famous (and discovering she stars in one of the most successful sagas of all time), it didn't start out so smoothly. He didn't know who she was when they met at a Red Riding Hood premiere back in early March.

The cameras were rolling as Idol fan Reed, dressed in a strapless dress, gushed to Paul, "You're amazing. I'm blushing, I should go." Paul replied, "Wow, thank you" and the two awkwardly hugged goodbye.

When Reid was out of earshot, Paul turned to the camera crew and asked, "Was she a famous actress or something? I'd hang out with her!"

Something worked, because the two have been "hanging out" ever since, even though McDonald says he had no plans on finding a girlfriend at the time.

"I didn't plan on dating anybody or anything like that, it just kind of fell into place. It's funny—my grandmother called me up [asking] 'Who's this new girlfriend you got?' I read it in the magazines," he said. "I'm just now getting used to all this, I just treat her like she's a normal girl to me. She just happens to be ridiculously talented."

You can see the duo's very first meeting about 50 seconds into this video. We do have to say, the sparks are flying.
