Let's face it. If you're looking for someone to play the heroic lead in your next movie, what better person is there to call than Tom Hanks, right? Of course, what's even better is when the Oscar winner is thisclose to actually agreeing to do it.

While Columbia Pictures does not officially have a deal with the actor just yet, E! News has confirmed that Hanks is attached to star as Captain Richard Phillips in the studio's upcoming film chronicling the 2009 takeover of an American cargo ship by Somali pirates during which Phillips offered himself up as a hostage to save his crew.

The project, about the harrowing incident and subsequent rescue of Phillips from a small lifeboat in the Indian Ocean, is based on his book A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea.

Here's hoping Hanks takes the helm.
