Decisions, decisions.

When news broke that Matt Damon would not be starring in The Bourne Legacy, speculation quickly ran rampant as to who, if anyone, could possibly replace him.

Mind you, nobody is technically replacing Damon since, as the film's director Tony Gilroy pointed out last October, "this is not a reboot or a recast or a prequel." In other words, despite the title, Jason Bourne himself is not in the movie and the eventual lead will be playing "a whole new hero."

So who will be taking over the popular film franchise?

While it hasn't been decided yet, among those on the shortlist are Jake Gyllenhaal, Garrett Hedlund, Tobey Maguire, Taylor Kitsch and Kellan Lutz.

Other sexy stars also believed to be in the running include Josh Hartnett, Michael Fassbender and Alex Pettyfer.

According to Variety, though, Gilroy pretty much knows the kind of actor he wants, so the search should end soon. Then again, it pretty much has to—cameras are expected to start rolling this spring in order for the film to meet its targeted August 2012 release.
