UPDATE: Finally! A rep for the couple confirms the happy news: "Penelope and Javier welcomed their first son into their family last week. Both parents and baby are doing great!"
________

It was truly a Biutiful day for Javier Bardem.

Just hours before he learned he had scored his third Oscar nomination, he and wife Penélope Cruz welcomed a son, their first child together, Monday night at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

We're going to go ahead and predict great looks and talent in this kid's future. Though it sure took long enough for him to get here!

The couple has maintained their trademark silence about the birth, with reps steadfastly refusing to comment on the widespread reports of the baby's arrival. Not that that stopped countless Spanish news outlets from running with the news, with Hola! magazine the first to report that the golden couple had welcomed a son. Meanwhile, People also confirmed the birth, though their source claims the baby was born over the weekend.

In any case, congratulations are certainly in order.

Cruz and Bardem met in their native Spain on the set of 1992's Jamon, Jamon, but they didn't get seriously romantic until costarring in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona nearly 15 years later. Cruz scored a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Bardem's violently passionate ex-wife, a year after Bardem snagged his Supporting Actor win for playing a scary murderer with even scarier hair in No Country for Old Men.

They tied the knot last July in the Bahamas.

According to the New York Post, the couple threw a co-ed baby shower for a small group of friends, including Leonardo DiCaprio and Bar Refaeli, at their L.A. home on Jan. 15. Biutiful director Alejandro González Iñarritu told reporters on the Golden Globes red carpet the following night that Bardem was busy attending to "personal matters."

Bardem and Cruz's last pre-baby event was Jan. 8 at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, where Bardem was given the International Star Award.
