E! News has confirmed that the Grammy Award winner has signed up for her first small-screen role, appearing in the third season of Showtime's The Tudors as Henry VIII's fourth fleeting wife, Anne of Cleves.
Yes, that'd be the fugly one.
Per the cable net, the upcoming season of the show, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, follows Henry's marriages to third queen Jane Seymour, played by Anita Briem, and then Stone's Anne.
Anne entered into a marriage treaty with the capricious king after Henry was shown a portrait of her. When she arrived in England, the royal was said to be disappointed by her actual appearance and annulled the marriage after just six months, indicating that Stone's screen time perhaps will be equally as fleeting.
In other big casting news:
- Indie, if not actual, king Mark Ruffalo is set to make his feature directing debut on the drama Sympathy for Delicious, per Variety. Ruffalo will pull double duty on the flick, costarring along with James Franco and writer-actor Chris Thornton. The not so lighthearted film follows a paralyzed homeless DJ who suddenly acquires the ability to cure the sick, aside from himself, and his subsequent exploitation.
- Jackie Chan is set to do what he does best—martial-arts comedies—with The Spy Next Door, per the Hollywood Reporter, as a man called to babysit his neighbor's children and is forced to fend off secret agents after one of the kids accidentally downloads a secret code.
- Ed Begley Jr. is lending his eco-loving acting chops to Gary Unmarried, a new CBS comedy starring Jay Mohr as a recently divorced father. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Begley plays the therapist who counseled the former married couple and is now engaged to Mohr's ex-wife.
- Erstwhile Brady boy Christopher Knight is upgrading his current career path from reality-show star to game-show host, signing on to man the nationally syndicated version of Trivial Pursuit when it kicks off Sept. 22.
- Former 24 thesp Eric Balfour has signed up for Rise of the Gargoyle, a two-hour TV movie to air on the Sci Fi Channel. Per the Hollywood Reporter, the telefilm chronicles what happens when an ancient gargoyle monster is unleashed in modern-day Paris. Spoiler alert: nothing good.
- Ryan Murphy, he of Nip/Tuck masterminding, is now developing a half-hour comedy for NBC based on the novel Hyper-chondriac: One Man's Quest to Hurry Up and Calm Down. Per Variety, Murphy is also producing the show, which centers on a pharmaceutical salesman who believes he suffers from a range of maladies.
- Former Family Ties star Michael Gross is parlaying his role in the squeaky-clean sitcom to the world of soaps. The onetime Keaton patriarch is set to join The Young and the Restless as River, the long-lost father of Michael Baldwin, on Aug. 15.
