Always loaded with verbal ammo and ready to go, Michael Lohan is taking the "shoot the messenger" route.

"She had it in for Lindsay the whole time," daddy dearest alleges in comments made to E! News, referring to the employee at Lindsay Lohan's treatment center who has accused the actress of assault.

A spokesman for the Palm Desert Police Department said detectives are treating the no-arrest incident as a misdemeanor investigation and, once they turn their case over, it will be up to the local district attorney to file any charges.

All his daughter did, Michael said, was dare return to the residence 10 minutes late after getting her hair done. (You know, your usual rehab sojourn.)

According to Michael, "As soon as Lindsay walked in the door the woman grabbed Lindsay by the arm, and not the other two girls [she was with], and said, 'You are going to take a urine test.'

"Lindsay just brushed her off. That is what she told me: ‘Dad, I just brushed her off.' "

But apparently, Michael continued, instead of calling the higher-ups at the Betty Ford Center, which supervises the Rancho Mirage facility where Lindsay is staying, the employee called the cops.

"It all boils down to that they were 10 minutes late," he said. "Lindsay had three weeks left and this woman was in Lindsay's face, constantly complaining."

A rep for Betty Ford declined to comment.

"At this time, we are declining to comment on the underlying facts surrounding this incident, as we await the completion of the police investigation," Lindsay's attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, said in a statement. "It should be noted, however, that it was Ms. Lohan who called 911 to request police assistance at the time this incident occurred."

Lindsay was previously ordered to remain in treatment until Jan. 3, but it's unclear how the ongoing investigation into the Dec. 12 incident will affect her standing with the judge.

A source close to Lindsay's defense team tells E! News that they have received no notice the starlet's probation has been, or will be, revoked as a result.
