When Scarlett Johansson was just 23, she married Ryan Reynolds. A little more than two years later, she's now divorcing the hunkster

The reaction from my Twitter followers has been a mix of shock, surprise, sadness, and the inevitable question of "Why can't celebrities just stay together?" Yeah, yeah. Celebs face the challenge of being abnormally gorgeous and rich, which we ugly peons all imagine must be such a terrible  burden on a relaysh. But I dug deeper and found something more compelling: The numbers simply were working against Scarjo.

Turns out, the divorce rate for American women ages 20 to 24 is roughly 37 percent— higher than any other age bracket! (For example, for females 25-29 the divorce rate drops precipitously to 16.4 percent...and just 8.5 percent for women 30 to 34.)

What's the lesson, ladies? Don't rush to the altar. That is, unless you're convinced that two years of sleeping with, say, Ryan Reynolds makes the potentially inevitable messy marital split worth the effort.

Tell me in the comments below if you think 23 is too young to get married . . .
