And the nominees are...

It was business as usual this morning for the HFPA at the Golden Globe nominations. Award season favorites Black Swan, The Fighter, Glee, The King's Speech, Mad Men, The Social Network and Modern Family all received nominations up and down the board. And as always, there were surprises. The Tourist? Burlesque? Angelina Jolie? Really?

One thing they did get right this year was nominating British actor, Idris Elba for his work on the gritty cop show, Luther. The BBC show is hard-hitting and brilliantly written. Idris always elevates the material he finds himself in, and this leading role and subsequent nomination seems to be the culmination of a career of underappreciated work.

I spoke to the actor after the news traveled across the pond, and he gave E! News this exclusive quote....

"I'm speechless man. I'm on the set of Luther 2, and we're all looking around like, 'What? Is this really happening?' It's a small BBC Show, but a great show, and this is such a great honor. I'm really happy right now."

In addition to working on another season of Luther, Elba will be seen in Thor this May, and is taking on the role of Alex Cross, originally made famous by Morgan Freeman.

Cheers mate!
