The Oscar nominee who was cast as Tom Cruise's co-star in Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol could end up taking over the movie franchise.
So who's the potential leading man?
MTV reports that The Hurt Locker star is being "groomed" to anchor the Mission: Impossible movies after Tom Cruise.
"It's a franchise to potentially take over," Renner confirmed.
"I can't predict the future and what they want, but that's certainly the idea."
There's no word whether Cruise will be passing the torch in Ghost Protocol or on a subsequent Mission.
"I can't really go into the details of the script, because that's still evolving," Renner said.
"It's Tom's baby. He's the engine behind the thing. What happens after that, we'll see."
