Michael Lohan is feeling good these days.

With Lindsay Lohan finally facing up to her addictions in rehab, the actress' estranged father says he's optimistic that their so-far happy reunion will at some point include his ex-wife, Dina Lohan, with whom he's had a contentious relationship to say the least.

In a sit-down with E! News before he headed over to the Betty Ford Clinic in Rancho Mirage to visit his troubled daughter, Lohan opened up a little about his Wednesday therapy session with LiLo and his efforts to bring her mom into the healing process.

"Look it was cleansing and it was productive...I don't want to talk about Lindsay. But let me say that Dina had great parents and I had great parents and unfortunately we both lost our fathers. God rest his soul," commented Michael. "But we are both striving to be on the same page and be good parents to Lindsay.  Like we use to be...[we] just want to put things back in order."

The elder Lohan said his initial meetings with the Mean Girls star have gone well so far and that he's "proud of her." He also added that he and Dina are now on speaking terms, at least they've talked over the phone, and he's "proud of the way Dina is handling this" and he only sees "better things in the future."

"Hopefully Dina and I can sit down and discuss this with Lindsay next month," he said. "I think we are striving for that, and things are really working out. I am very very happy."

Michael couldn't say whether Lohan will be released in time for the holidays (a judge has ordered her to remain in treatment until Jan. 3) or whether a family reunion between the three of them was in the offing. But Lohan did say he and his former missus "are doing our best to be on the same page and put things back in order."

We wish them good luck.
