A cedar fence running along the length of a new café-bakery recently opened by Richard Gere and a partner in the tony New York suburb of Bedford might have to go unless the actor's camp can obtain a zoning variance allowing the 5-foot-high fence in the 4-foot-max area. No decision is expected before May 7, said a local building inspector. Bedford is the same town that wouldn't let Martha Stewart build a barn on her property, deeming it not a good thing.
