    Captain America Total Coverage! First Looks at the Captain's Full Costume

    We've been obsessing over this Captain America: The First Avenger, directed by Joe Johnston, starring Chris Evans and due July 2011. So here's all the lasting casting news and scoop:

    The red, white and blue costume has arrived (January, 2010): The pics just keep on coming! Not only did we get our very first look at Chris Evans all suited up as the iconic superhero, more have come our way, and they're full of action! We're loving the look of the costume. It's classic, accurate to the original and just seems cool. It passes that crucial litmus test of: Would you consider wearing this as a Halloween costume? The answer: Yes. Yes we would.

    Tons o' New Pics! (October 2010): New photos popped up this week, helping to explain very basics of Captain America—which many Americans don't even know! Like how the hero was once Steve Rogers, a sickly young man who was given an experimental super soldier serum and sent into WWII to kick Nazi butt.

    Get Your First Official Look! (October 2010): Although the production has been underway in England for months, few pics have made their way out to the world. That all changed in late October when this official shot of Chris Evans in full Captain America garb was presented to the world.     Stan Lee Gets Ready for His Cameo (July 2010): Not only famous for creating some of the most iconic superheros in the world, Stan Lee is also known for his trademark cameos in the big-screen adaptations of his work. In the summer of 2010, the genius confirms that he will indeed continue the tradition with Captain America.

    In an interview, Lee joked about his recurring appearances: "I think every movie producer realizes that the only reason people go to the movie is to see my cameo, so they dare not omit it," he laughed.

    Neil McDonough Teams Up With the Howling Commado (June 2010): Just because you've developed a serum that turns people into models of human performance, it doesn't mean you just let them run wild without any direction. Enter Neil McDonough (Band of Brothers) as Dum Dum Dugan, leader of the Howling Commandos and an expert at taking on America's WWII enemies.

    Stanley Tucci Joins the Super Soldier Program (June 2010): As part of his continued efforts to acheive total all-around awesomeness, Stanley Tucci, veteran of the stage and screen, joins the superhero saga as Dr. Abraham Erskine. As a member of the Super Soldier Program, Erskine was responsible for developing the serum that made Steve Rogers the epitome of human conditioning.

    Dominic Cooper Cast as Howard Stark, Tony's Dad (May 2010): We've gotten to know Tony very well over the last few years (reminder: he looks a lot like Robert Downey Jr.). In Captain America, we'll finally get some time the equally genius elder Stark. British thesp Dominic Cooper, best known for his roles in Tamara Drewe and The Duchess, joins the cast as the founder of Stark Industries.

    Filmmakers Turn to Tommy Lee Jones for Military Oversight (May 2010): When you're in something like the Super Soldier Program and turning weak, fragile men into perfect specimens, you need an authoritative supervisor. Cue Academy Award winner and all-around general badass Tommy Lee Jones as Colonel Chester Phillips, the military man responsible for overseeing the program responsible for Captain America's powers.

    British Newcomer Takes on Role of Leading Lady (April 2010): The filmmakers announce that British actress and relative big-screen newcomer Hayley Atwell will take on the role of Peggy Carter, our hero's love interest.

    Emily Blunt Turns Down Captain America (April 2010): Though she originally was offered the female role of Peggy Carter, Emily Blunt, politely turned down the role. She told MTV of her decision: "I'm a big supporter of [director] Joe Johnston and I think that Captain America is going to be really fun and I gather that the story is really interesting," she said. "It just wasn't what I wanted to do next, to be honest."

    Safe to say it's a loss for all of us.

    Captain America's Sidekick Officially Joins Cast (April 2010): Even those who are out to save the world need someone to have their back, and with the annoucement that Sebastian Stan would be playing James "Bucky" Barnes, the heroic duo was set.

    Captain America Title Role Casting Confirmed (March 2010): After a star-studded casting process, full of Hollywood players like Ryan Phillippe, Sam Worthington and Channing Tatum, it's announced that Chris Evans, best known as Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four, would be suiting up as our titular superhero.

    Hugo Weaving Cast as The Red Skull (March 2010): The filmmakers announce that veteran actor Weaving, best knows for his roles in The Matrix, the Lord of the Rings trilogy and V for Vendetta will be battling our patriotic hero on the big screen.

    Captain America Villain Announced (February 2010): Although the announcement is brief and doesn't suggest who is up for the role, the filmmakers reveal Captain America will be going head-to-head with the Red Skull. While there are a few variations of Red Skull in the comic, considering the film's setting during WWII, it's possible the creators will use the former American industrialist turned Nazi saboteur plot.
