Following up last week's New York meltdown, the death-defying Charlie Sheen filed for divorce today from estranged wife Brooke Mueller—who in turn went and filed for divorce right back!
Guess the third go-round wasn't a charm for good-time Charlie...
With his marriage to Mueller in the tank, Sheen is now 0-for-3 in the union department, have previously divorced Donna Peele and Denise Richards.
Sheen is seeking joint custody of their year-and-a-half-old twin sons, Bob and Max, per court docs. Sources tell E! News that Sheen and Mueller already agreed to a settlement of assets—assisted by the existence of a prenup.
Mueller, in her dueling petition, is seeking sole physical custody with visitation rights for Sheen and makes no mention of a preexisting settlement.
Sheen, 45, and Mueller, 33, tied the knot in May 2008 but haven't been together since his domestic violence arrest last Christmas, when he threatened her with a knife.
He eventually pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault in exchange for three months' probation.
Not coincidentally, both cited Dec. 25, 2009, as their date of separation.
Last week Sheen erupted into headlines after he was found naked, deemed "emotionally disturbed" in a police report and eventually hospitalized after a wild night of partying with a porn actress.
By Friday, he was back at work on the set of Two and a Half Men, telling photographers that life was "excellent!"
Marriage was apparently another story.
Although Sheen pulled the trigger citing "irreconcilable differences," a source close to Mueller tells E! News that things rapidly broke down between the two following the New York escapades and the decision to divorce was mutual.
In fact, the duo agreed in May to ultimately dissolve their marriage and parse out their assets as set forth in the prenup they signed in 2008.
According to the judgment, Sheen got to keep their Mulholland Estates home (where the cars keep disappearing from) but paid for Mueller's move to nearby Los Feliz, while Mueller kept all of her clothing and jewelry, the nursery and guest bedroom furniture, and her 2009 S600 Mercedes.
Plus, per the documents, Sheen agreed to pay Mueller $55,000 per month in child support until their twins turn 18—the same amount Denise Richards gets—as well as foot the bill for all medical expenses.
"Brooke told Charlie it's over between them since he acted so irresponsibly in New York. They both decided to file [for divorce] today," the source says.
"He has not seen the kids since New York. She won't let him unless she's with them and the nannies, until she's sure he's not using."
Mueller left Los Angeles today to be with her parents in Palm Beach, Fla. The twins remained behind in her L.A. home, where they will be cared for by Mueller's aunt and uncle and army of nannies.
