Cox-Arquette Split: "We Didn't Have Any Idea," Says Scream 4 Director

Wes Craven talks to us about shocking breakup announced not long after sequel wrapped: "It's very sad"

If there were any problems brewing between Courteney Cox and David Arquette during the making of Scream 4, director Wes Craven says they did an awesome job not mixing business with displeasure.

"We didn't have any idea that was going on," Craven told me at Spike TV's Scream Awards…

In fact, Craven said reuniting the original cast members "was a big lovefest. It's kind of embarrassing."

Cox and Arquette first met and fell in love while making the first flick of the ghostface killer franchise. Scream 4 shot for about six months in Michigan with Cox shooting for just about three weeks.

"It's very sad," Craven said of the split. "I just about cried when I heard. It's a wrenching thing to happen to anybody that you love. I wish them both the best."
