Some horribly sad news from a pair of our dear E! friends.

Bill and Giuliana Rancic, whose struggles to conceive have been well documented, have just revealed that they suffered a miscarriage.

The couple dropped the bombshell in an episode of The View set to air Friday.

"It's hard to talk about. This is actually the first time we are talking about this, because nobody knew we were pregnant. And it was really scary," Giuliana tells host Barbara Walters.

"I'm sorry I'm getting a little emotional, but about eight weeks in, we went for a routine ultrasound and the nurse looked very concerned. She brought in the doctor and he looked concerned. So he said, 'Go wait for me in my office. I'm going to review this a little more.' And when we were in there he came in...and we just knew that something wrong.

"And I broke down and I couldn't believe it. Our pregnancy was going beautifully. We had told our family. We had confided in people and told them and we were just thrilled."

To which Bill adds: "You could see it in the doctor's eyes. He had news he didn't want to tell us, but he had to...It was a miscarriage."

"And he told us that we had lost the baby," says Giuliana. "He said it was a chromosomal issue—that it was actually a blessing in disguise. The body was doing its job."

The couple say they came forward because they don't think a miscarriage should be a stigma. They plan to address the issue further on the coming season of their eponymous Style show, which premieres Oct. 11.

And they want everyone to know that the painful setback isn't going to keep them from having a family.

"We are really looking at all of our options," says Giuliana. "I mean, listen, whether it's IVF or whatever it is, we want to have a baby and we will have a baby."
