Morning Mail! Will Brett Ratner Ever Work Again?

More from The Awful Truth

Dear Ted:
I think it was very shrewd of Brett Ratner to resign from the Oscars as opposed to forcing the Academy to fire him. Hopefully, he will learn from this experience and in the future decide to think before he speaks.
—Amanda F.

Dear I Hear Ya:
I think the bottom line on this item is that he is out. Brett needs a muzzle until he can learn to keep his mouth closed. Thankfully, you can't say the things he said, especially in Hollywood (Isaiah Washington knows this lesson only too well). Brett's made his bed, and whether or not he resigned or the Academy asked him to resign remains to be revealed. Everything in the Academy's immediate zero-tolerance messaging on the topic points to the latter.

Dear Ted:
What do you think of Kate Winslet's new beau? Do you think this one will lead to another marriage No. 3?

James Franco: About Those Gay Rapist Rumors...

James Franco AP Photo/Mark J. Terrill
More from 2011_oscars

The Oscars may have taken place all the way back in February, but that hasn't stopped anyone with a talk show, magazine or platform of any kind from bringing up the televised debacle to James Franco every chance they get.

And this week, it was Playboy's turn as they once again queried the actor-turned-professional student on his hosting stint—and this time around, he appears to be completely over toeing any party lines.

But hey, at least he didn't call Anne Hathaway a Tasmanian devil again…though from the sounds of it, she got away the easiest of all his Oscar cohorts...

Anne Hathaway Talks James Franco's Oscar "Tasmanian Devil" Diss

Maybe if the Tasmanian Devil wore Prada, it would have been more of a compliment.

We're referring, of course, to James Franco's Late Show appearance a few days after the Oscars where he compared his cohost Anne Hathaway to a certain Looney Tunes character.

So what does the actress have to say when the subject is brought up in the August issue of Harper's Bazaar?

Best Picture Oscar Race Picks a Number, Any Number (And That Could Be Bad News for Super 8)

What are the chances of, say, Super 8 or X-Men: First Class picking up a Best Picture nod?

Got a calculator?

After changing the rules a few years back to expand the number of Best Picture Oscar nominees from five films to 10 in hopes of getting more fan-friendly flicks in contention, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences is tinkering with the format yet again. The 2012 Academy Awards will now see a range of between five and 10 films nominated to add an "element of surprise."

And that's where the math degree helps.

Black Swan Dance Double: Filmmakers Are "Completely Lying"

Natalie Portman, Black Swan Fox Searchlight
More from The Awful Truth

This is one ballerina drama that will not stop twirling, and somebody's tutu is in a bunch!

In a new 20/20 interview airing tonight, Natalie Portman's dance double from Black Swan gives her first TV interview explaining why she thinks the filmmakers need to come clean about the amount of dancing the star actually did for the Oscar-winning role.

So what exactly does Sarah Lane, who has previously written about the controversy, say? Doesn't sound like she's scoring an invite to Portman's baby shower, let's put it that way:

Sarah Lane, the controversial dancing double in Black Swan, certainly has not been too shy to share her opinion on the Oscar scandal.

In fact, as some suggest Natalie shouldn't have won the Oscar for her psychological role, Fox Searchlight, Benjamin Millepied and Mila Kunis have all taken to the star's defense

The only person we haven't heard from? Portman, herself.

But even when you're pregnant, you can't stay tight-lipped forever...

James Franco, Twitter Quitter?

And they said this day would never come. How wrong they were! Because today, ladies and gentletweeters, is the day that even James Franco thinks he's overexposed.

At least, that's what we're left to assume as just this week (just earlier this week, actually, so there goes that April Fool's theory) Franco disabled his Twitter account without a peep. Or, um, tweet.

So what happened?

Should Annette Bening (or Another) Have Won the Oscar?

Annette Bening Dimitrios Kambouris/WireImage
More from The Awful Truth

We've said it before and we'll say it again: We thought Annette Bening and her killer performance in The Kids Are All Right should have taken home the Oscar for Best Actress this year.

Portman, with her pregnancy and romance, easily became the fan favorite on Oscar night, stealing the spotlight, but also snubbing Annette (who's been snubbed so many times before).

So with all the negative Black Swan controversy and the allegedly not all-that-honest Oscar campaign, are we the only one's having second thoughts?
