Selena Gomez Too Sick to Sing—Tween Nation Weeps

Wizards of Waverly Place star is forced to cancel upcoming performances at state fairs after straining her voice

Selena Gomez wasn't kidding when she told George Lopez she had lost her voice.

After turning up on Lopez Tonight last night with a Dynavox to do the talking for her, the Disney princess announced today that strained vocal cords have forced her to cancel performances at two state fairs.

At least fans can console themselves with chocolate-covered bacon and funnel cakes.

Per her official website, Gomez scuttled Wednesday's show at the Delaware State Fair (sadly, it will not be rescheduled), while Thursday's gig at the Ohio State Fair in Columbus has now been postponed to Nov. 6.

Tickets for the Ohio concert will be honored on the new date. Those seeking refunds for either show can get them at point of purchase.

Gomez's status for the shows definitely appeared iffy during her appearance with Lopez on Monday. There to promote her feature film debut, Ramona and Beezus, now in theaters, she gamely showed up even though she obviously couldn't talk.

Lopez called the Wizards of Waverly Place star a "trooper" for going forward with the interview using a computerized speech device, which made for some interesting exchanges.

"I'm sorry, I'm so upset. But at least it's funny, right?" said Gomez via her squawk box.

After getting some questions in advance that she could plug into her modified speak-and-spell, the singer-actress talked about celebrating her 18th birthday and how her band serenaded her with a Backstreet Boys song. She also waxed robotically about finding a few gray hairs and hanging out with fellow teenybopper Justin Bieber, whom she said was "like my little brother."

Gomez is expected to be back in fine real voice in time for a Saturday performance in Holmdel, N.J.
