How did Glee director Paris Barclay react when the hit Fox show picked up 19 Emmy nominations yesterday morning? Not as enthusiastically as you might think.

"I wasn't really excited until I heard that Chris Colfer got a nomination," Barclay admitted to us at last night's opening gala for the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. "I thought he might be overlooked, because it's a part that I don't know if people get how great he is."

Read on to find out what Kurt Hummel's alter ego had to say about his and costar Jane Lynch's Emmy nods...

"I'm still kind of in shock over the whole thing," Colfer said. "But it's pretty exciting."

And he had nothing but praise for costar and fellow nominee Jane Lynch. "Jane is a rock star," Colfer gushed. "She's one of the most talented people I've ever met. I love Jane, and she deserves this and every award she gets."

The costars and real-life friends even shared a tender moment after finding out about their nominations.

"We just held each other and hugged for about a minute and a half," the 20-year-old said.

Colfer remained true to his Glee character's dramatic tendencies, though, when Barclay called to congratulate him after the nomination.

"He started to cry," Barclay laughed. "He's a big crier."
