It's an epic clash of megafauna and...rival '80s teen pop stars?

Doing a bit of time traveling, Syfy is pitting Debbie Gibson and Tiffany against each other in Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, the cable net's upcoming Saturday night original movie about—you guessed it—supersize reptilians run amok.

And no, the singers aren't playing the title roles. But here's what we know:

Gibson will play a radical animal-rights activist who ends up wreaking havoc after she frees a bunch of illegally imported exotic snakes from pet stores and dumps them in the Everglades where they grow to gargantuan sizes. Tiffany plays the part of an overzealous park ranger who employs dodgy methods to save endangered alligators.

"I know that pop culture fanatics have been dying for Tiffany and me to collaborate for the past 24 years! What better way to do it than by battling each other in a campy romp through the Everglades?" exclaimed Gibson.

The script has the two getting into a nasty tussle at a party before facing off outside in the swamp.

Added Tiffany: "Only in my dreams have I been able to have a catfight with Debbie Gibson. . .until now! This is soo MEGA Cool!"

The Hollywood Reporter quoted a Syfy exec as saying the idea of pairing the singer-actors came when Tiffany paid a visit to the channel's headquarters and expressed a desire to work with Gibson. Both have previously acted in Syfy originals but always separately.  As it happened, Gibson was totally game for a rumble in the jungle.

We can just imagine an appropriately timed version of "I Think We're Alone Now" when things get hairy.

The flick starts shooting this month and will air on Syfy next year.
