A good news-bad news morning for Chris Klein. Good news: people in Hollywood are talking about him again.

The bad? The American Pie star was collared early this morning for driving under the influence.

Klein was driving along U.S. 101 (aka the Hollywood Freeway) in Los Angeles around 3:13 a.m. when, according to a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol, officers witnessed him "weaving from the No. 3 lane into the No. 2 and No. 4 lane."

Translation: Dude was driving crazy.

After failing a field sobriety test, the 31-year-old thesp was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI and booked at a nearby Van Nuys substation, per the police report.

Klein was in the car with a dog; a friend came to collect the animal while the actor was processed.

He was cooperative with police and didn't resist arrest. He's due to be released from custody this afternoon on $25,000 bail.

There was no immediate comment from Klein's camp, but the CHP spokesman said Klein's blood-alcohol level was "more than double the legal limit" of 0.08 percent.

The former Election star could be in some deep doo-doo.

Because he's still on probation after pleaded guilty in 2005 to a misdemeanor DUI charge, the erstwhile Katie Holmes fiancé faces a mandatory minimum of four days in jail if he's convicted of the DUI charge.

And should be found guilty after July, a new state law would force him to have an "ignition interlock system" in his vehicle. The small sensor detects alcohol and would prevent him from starting the car if he's pie-eyed.
