Well, 'twas a valiant effort to distract Lamar Odom, but it ultimately failed.

Tauntr.com had the hot idea to hand out more than 5,000 cardboard Khloé Kardashian Odom masks to Boston Celtics fans Tuesday before Game 3 of the NBA Finals, in the hopes of screwing with her power-forward hubby down on the court.

"Wow! That's funny!" tweeted Khloé, so apparently the stunt didn't get to her.

And Odom perservered, as well, even though his wife's real face wasn't in the crowd along with all the fakes. (She and sister Kourtney were in New York to appear on The Late Show With David Letterman tonight.)

"That was crazy," he said of the mass of masks during a postgame interview.

The Lakers, who led by as many as 17 points in the first half, may have watched their commanding lead dwindle to one point in the fourth quarter, but the boys from L.A. ultimately triumphed over the Celtics, 91-84, to take a 2-1 lead in the series.

Odom scored 12 points, making all five of his field goal attempts and both his free throws for  his best performance of the series so far.

Distraction, indeed.

Sure, Celtics fans might be nuttier. But they aren't collectively more famous than the Lakers Lovers.
