On the heels of Tuesday's emotional, "I am beautiful" episode of Glee, Siobhan Magnus—who was just booted off of American Idol last night—is rallying the cause against exterior judgments. "I get letters from younger girls who've said, 'I get made fun of at school because I'm different, but watching you has helped me accept the fact [that] that's a good thing to be who I am,'" Siobhan just told us.
We'll pause while you grab your hanky.
Siobhan's exit interview today was inspirational and enlightening, including a certain truth that Lee Dewyze's BFF Andrew Garcia might not like so well (we kid)…
Where do you get your confidence?
It's definitely something that's been important to me, from the beginning, to show people that's something I care about and take seriously. I've always been an independent person and a different person, but I'm very stubborn and strong-willed and it's important for me to get that across, that I'm not going to change for other people. I do what I do because it rests well on my heart and who I am. The feedback that I've received from fans was tremendous. I've achieved something that meant so much to me for so long, to influence the lives of young girls in a positive way and it shows them that who you are on the inside is a beautiful thing.
How'd you learn to hit those high notes?
I figured out how to do that in the shower. I'm an avid shower singer, much to the dismay of my family and my neighbors. I was singing a Kelly Clarkson song and I went to hit one note and I was able to resonate it in a different part of my head and I could belt it that high. Every since I figured it out, I started using more and more in different stuff, and it became very useful with the style of singing that I like to do.
Who'd you grow closest to?
I am especially close with Lee, he's just such an amazing person and we formed such an amazing friendship, as I did with every contestant, but Lee in particular, we clicked. I was so glad to have him there and they're all extremely encouraging. We have this special bond and we know this isn't the end by any means for any of us. We will be friends forever. It's inevitable just because of what we've shared together. They were very supportive and encouraging and I can't wait to see them again. I miss them already.
How has your boyfriend at home dealt with you being on the show?
He's been great this whole time. There's a kind of pressure on him throughout all this that people don't recognize. Him being able to be strong while we're apart was extremely helpful. I knew that I could call him every night and vent about whatever happened that day...he was in it with me even though we were 3,000 miles apart. He definitely played a huge role in this.
Who should win?
It's so hard to say because each person is unique and extremely talented, and it heavily depends on the coming theme. Sometimes some people are more comfortable with one thing. All of the contestants have such an incredible ability to make songs their own and I have faith in all of them.
Final words to the fans?
I'd say not to worry because this is just the end of one thing and the beginning of a new thing. I have so many big ideas and things that I hope to come in the future that I wouldn't have had a chance to do without this experience. Hopefully this will just be the gateway to all the other things I aspire to do.
