Glee Spoiler Alert: Could Idina Menzel Be Rachel's _______?!

Boss Ryan Murphy gives us some juicy intel on the Lady Gaga episode that could mean a shocker is in store

Huh. Weird. I threw out a teensy little Glee storyline bomb on last night's E! News, and now you Gleeks are going crizazay trying to figure it out.

Well, join the club, because this possible spoiler about the Lady Gaga episode of Glee is straight up crazytown.

Glee boss Ryan Murphy gave me a surprising hint that...

Frank Micelotta/FOX

...Idina Menzel could possibly end up being Lea Michele's biomom after all!

While talking about the Lady Gaga episode they're shooting, Murphy revealed: "Lea and Idina Menzel will do an acoustic version of 'Poker Face' that [Lady Gaga] blessed and that she wanted us to do. It's sort of like a stripped-down mother-daughter 'Poker Face' that Lady Gaga was involved in."

As my jaw unhinged, I eeked back to Ryan: "Mother-daughter?!"

"Yes. Really. If you listen to the lyrics, it kind of works," Murphy responded. "She can't love anybody…It works. Listen to the lyrics again."

Now, this is stunning on two accounts: First, that Ryan Murphy would believe me to question his song selection/musical genius (please!) and second, that Idina's character Shelby Corcoran might turn out to be the all-important egg in Glee's Rachel Berry soufflé. (Man, I really need to get breakfast before trying to write these things.)

Of course, Lea and Idina look nothing alike. Ahem. So not alike that a commenter on this story here assumed we'd "goofed" and published a photo of Idina instead of Lea at the top.

So what do we know about Rachel's origins? I'm pretty sure all we know is what she revealed in Glee's very first episode: "I have two dads...My two dads screened potential surrogates based on beauty and IQ. Then they mixed their sperm together and used a turkey baster. To this day we don't know which one is my real dad, which I think is pretty amazing."

If (beautiful and smart) Idina is indeed Rachel's biomom, suffice to say that she might be the second coming of "The Man" reveal on Alias, meaning that as the coach for rival glee club Vocal Adrenaline, Rachel's own mother is (dun dun dun) the enemy—gaah! How could she send Jesse St. James (Jonathan Groff) to charm the pants off her own daughter to collect intel? Maybe even Shelby doesn't know?

The mind reels. And of course, all of this is speculation. But it sure is fun.

Whether Shelby/Idina turns out to be connected to Rachel or not, Lea and Idina's version of "Poker Face" sure sounds fan-freaking-tastic, as does the Lady Gaga episode overall (get more scoop on it here).

We're actually talking to Idina herself very soon, so if you have questions for her, place them in the comments below. [My first Q: Was Lena Olin considered for the same part?]

Now I leave you with the "Poker Face" lyrics, since Murphy suggested we check 'em out.

Hmmm...Is that "mum muh" or "mama?"
