Are you freaking kidding me?!

That's all I can say after the final moments of tonight's Lost episode, in which the writers once again put our tender hearts through a meat grinder.

That was so not cool.

Get in here to discuss, and hear what Jorge Garcia (Hurley) has to say about what's next:

WHAT WE LEARNED

Is Desmond Evil Now? Au contraire, tubaires. Though the last shot of the night was Desmond Hume (Henry Ian Cusick) in the Sideways world, plowing over poor, wheelchair-bound John Locke (Terry O'Quinn) with his car, here's my guess on Des' motivations: He's traveled to the Sideways world to kill John Locke in order to prevent the Smoke Monster from inhabiting that body on the Island. Now, that's all well and good, but I have a serious beef with the writers at this point: Can you please stop torturing John Locke?! Hasn't he been through enough already? We were really hoping he'd end up alive and happy in the Sideways world. Unless, hmmm...Maybe John will go to the hospital and Dr. Jack Shepard will fix him to be in even better shape than he was before? I honestly don't know, but I suppose I'm not giving up hope just yet.

Desmond Just Might Be the Only One Who Can Stop Fake Locke: Not only can he withstand massive amounts of electromagnetic energy without it splattering his brain (neat trick!), we know from the past that Des seems to be the only one who can flash through space and time (take that, Masi Oka!), and this will obviously prove very useful as he works in both worlds (the Island world and the Sideways world) to stop Fake Locke. It also explains why Fake Locke is clearly rattled by Desmond's presence on the Island, and why he threw him down a well to sit like a sitting duck until (as the promo showed us) Sayid will try to bust a cap in Desmond next week.

We Now Know What the Whispers Are: Hurley figured out that the hushed voices we've been hearing since season one are people like Michael (Harold Perrineau), who are "stuck on the Island." "Yeah, we're the ones who can't move on," Michael says. "Because of what I did." Which makes me think: How pissed is Harold Perrineau now that he's actually been on the series all along but they haven't been paying him?! Time to collect those lost wages, buddy.

I caught up with Jorge Garcia on the Lost set right after he finished shooting tonight's episode, and he told me it drudged up some memories for him in real life: "We had the same director as my first Hurley episode. So it was nostalgic.  And I did get the reunion with Cynthia [Watros] and working with Harold when he came back. So, that was cool. I think this is the biggest scene me and Harold ever had in the series. I don't remember a scene where it was just me and him, one on one, so it was really fun."

"Love" Is Still the Answer: Hurley met up with Libby in the Sideways world (with the help of Destiny, and a smidge of urging by Desmond) and finally had that picnic date in Waikiki Los Angeles, so it seems that they, too, are meant to be together in the end. Or are they? Here's what Jorge told me while he was on the Lost set shooting next week's episode:

WHAT LIES AHEAD

We May See Libby Again: "It's great because it's kind of an open ending the way the episode ended. And there's word that Libby [Cynthia] will be back. It'll be interesting to see how it closes the story."

Desmond Is Definitely Special: "I like the way Desmond's character has kind of become this almost magical being that kind of facilitates things and makes things happen," Jorge told me. "It's exciting, the idea now that we're remembering the [Island]. And what does that mean and how that's all gonna…what's gonna happen?"

Death Is Coming: I hate to be the bearer of bad—no, make that gut-wrenching—news, but I would definitely keep the Kleenex box on standby for the next few episodes. I'm told that one of them is a game-changer, in which we will see some serious tragedy. As in, loss of life. As in, life that the fans truly, truly care about. I'm tearing up just thinking about it so...Get ready.

What did you think of tonight's Lost? Anyone else wishing those mean writers would leave poor John Locke alone?
