There may have been trouble in Brooke Mueller and Charlie Sheen's paradise for some time now.

According to a source close to Mueller's family, the couple's marriage was on the rocks long before the alleged domestic violence incident Friday morning in Aspen, Colo.

"Brooke and Charlie have had many fights during their short marriage over his insistence on staying home and never wanting to go out," the source said.

We also hear that Sheen has issues with Mueller's mother, who reportedly divides her time between homes in Palm Beach, Aspen and Los Angeles.

"She is a very big part of her daughter's life," the source said. "She is very social and Charlie hates all of the social stuff. He is cerebral and not interested in fluff."

As for reports of Mueller seeking a restraining order against Sheen, Pitkin County spokeswoman Stephanie Dasaro tells E! News it's not as cut-and-dried as it seems.

Mueller may not have requested the order at all, as "Colorado mandates a protection order between arrestees for domestic violence and their victims," explains Dasaro.

Mueller and Sheen married in May 2008, after their July 2007 engagement. On March 14 of this year, she gave birth to twin boys, Max and Bob.

But trouble was brewing soon after they wed, the source said.

"Brooke said right before she got pregnant after their wedding that she was 'so bored' and revealed to pals she wasn't sure how long they'd last."

A source close to Mueller tells People the duo are planning to undergo counseling to repair their marriage. According to the report, Sheen returned to Los Angeles after his release from jail and will enroll in anger management counseling.

Mueller and Sheen's reps have not yet responded to requests for comment.

Sheen's arrest could be a contender for our 2009 "Juiciest Scandals" gallery. Or should we be like the Grammys and roll this one over for next year?
