Witness Attests to Threesome With R. Kelly, Teen

Woman says she participated in several threesomes with singer and underage girl he's accused of making a sex tape with

According to the prosecution's so-called star witness, R. Kelly's relationship with a certain minor amounted to more than one videotape.

Lisa Van Allen testified Monday that, starting in late 1997 or early 1998, she participated in several threesomes with the R&B singer and the girl he's accused of making a sex tape with when she was only 13 or 14 years old.

Both the alleged victim, who's now 23, and Kelly—who has pleaded not guilty—have denied that they're the ones on the video.

But while Van Allen couldn't attest to the authenticity of the tape that has Kelly looking at a possible 15 years in prison on child-pornography charges, she told the court that Kelly filmed their first threeway encounter at his Chicago home and at one point offered her $250,000 if she would hand over a copy of the tape.

Van Allen, who appeared in several of Kelly's music videos and teared up more than once during the three hours she was on the stand, said several acquaintances of hers took the tape to a hotel room, where one of Kelly's reps handed over $20,000 in cash for it and added it to a duffel bag full of sex tapes that the singer had with him at all times.

"If he was in the studio, it was in the studio with him. If he went to Hoops [basketball court], it went to Hoops with him. The bag would follow him," Van Allen testified.

Prosecutors estimate the first indiscretion occurred when Kelly was 30, Van Allen was 18 and the unidentified girl was 14. The legal consent age in Illinois is 17; Van Allen, who has been granted immunity from any related charges, testified that Kelly told her their young friend was 16.

"He had a stand, and he set [the camera] up and directed it toward where we were," she said. "[He] told us where to sit and basically what to do."

During cross-examination, Kelly's team—which has argued that the original tape could have been doctored to look as if the Grammy winner was having sex with the purported victim, who was positively identified during the trial by several friends and relatives—accused Van Allen of trying to extort money from Kelly.

The witness admitted to stealing a $20,000 diamond Rolex watch from Kelly out of his hotel room in 2001, but said that, in this case, she's purely trying to do the right thing.

"So the spirit didn't move you to do the right thing, this, until today?" defense attorney Sam Adam Sr. asked, questioning why she didn't come forward until just a few months ago, while Kelly has been facing charges for six years.

"I was young," Van Allen said.

"You were younger yesterday, that's not the question," Adam fired back.

Van Allen, who is currently several months pregnant, replied that she had just given birth to a daughter and did not want to involve herself in the explosive case. She also denied any extortion attempt on her part.

Following Van Allen's emotional testimony, prosecutors rested their case. Jurors will get a day off and the defense is scheduled to call its first witness Wednesday.
