For the next Terminator installment, what's lost is Gainsbourg, thanks to the threat of an actors' strike.

What's gained, however, is Bryce Dallas Howard.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Opie's offspring is in negotiations to replace French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

Gainsbourg was forced to pull out of the cyborg-battling production due to scheduling conflicts that may arise should the strike go into effect.

Should the work stoppage occur, production on Terminator would inevitably be postponed, with filming potentially running into the allotted time for a French comedy that Gainsbourg has already signed on to shoot later this year.

As it is, her old role—Kate Connor, the wife of John Connor, played by Christian Bale—is just about officially in Howard's capable hands.

Shooting on the film is under way in New Mexico.
