What Lautner and Swift Did for Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day will be that much sweeter with a song from Taylor Swift , don't ya think?

The singer, who plays opposite Taylor Lautner in the upcoming ensemble romantic comedy from director Garry Marshall, will likely be writing and performing a tune for the flick.

"We hope she does," Marshall told me yesterday at Variety's inaugural Power of Women luncheon in Beverly Hills. "But when people write songs, they always want to see the movie.

"[Taylor] wants to see the part that she's in," he added. "I just finished, so I need to edit for a second."

Marshall had hoped that Lautner and Swift would have bigger roles in the movie. Sadly, their busy schedules didn't allow for it.

"She writes songs and sings and he does the vampire thing," Marshall said. "But I discovered Taylor Lautner ran track back in Minnesota. That's why I have him jumping hurdles in the movie. She likes to dance and he likes to jump a hurdle, so we made up the scene for them."

Valentine's Day also reunites Marshall with Julia Roberts. He was quick to shoot down the never-ending rumor that there will be a sequel to their hit Pretty Woman.

However, Marshall did reveal that he's considering another Pretty Woman project. Read on for the scoop...

Marshall wants to bring a Pretty Woman musical to Broadway. "We do talk about that," he said. "I really want to do it…I'd want to direct, but I want to write and be involved in it that way, too." (Maybe he can get Swift to be in the show?!)

Marshall's Princess Diaries star Anne Hathaway is another one of the many A-listers in Valentine's Day—most of her work in the flick is with old friend Topher Grace and Queen Latifah.

"I'm now kind of in love with Queen Latifah," said Hathaway, who was honored at the luncheon for her work with Service Nation. "I was like, 'You are so awesome and such a pro!' "

Hathaway said she is still waiting to see a script for the upcoming Broadway musical and movie adaptation of Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland, in which she'll star as the legendary entertainer.

"I've been doing lots of research, looking at tapes and things," she said. "I have really been focusing on her work on her TV show. In the Get Happy biography, she describes it as the happiest professional time of her life."

And being the gay that I am, I know Barbra Streisand and Garland performed a duet of "Happy Days Are Here Again" and "Happy Days" on the show in 1963.

So who should play Babs opposite Hathaway? "Barbra is going to have to play herself," Hathaway said with a laugh. "There is no one like her."

Also honored at Power of Women, which was sponsored by Lifetime Networks, were January Jones, Christina Aguilera, Christina Applegate, Sigourney Weaver, Maria Bello, Sherry Lansing and Laura Ziskin.
