Chris Brown is more than willing to take out the trash—that is, as soon as someone assigns him the job.
A spokeswoman for the Virginia Commonwealth's Department of Corrections would not confirm Brown's exact start date or that he had been assigned to a work detail.
And contrary to a media report, she stated that corrections officials are still reviewing the parameters set up with authorities in California, where he pleaded guilty to assaulting the "Umbrella" singer as part of a deal to avoid prison.
Here's hoping they figure it out. And soon.
Doug Conner, a Richmond city councilman, was quoted by TMZ today as saying the 20-year-old entertainer will don a reflective orange vest and join up to 40 fellow offenders picking up roadside litter, removing graffiti and washing police cruisers under the "watchful eye" of a program official. The detail would last from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
However, a city council staffer who wished to remain anonymous disputed that account, telling E! News that Conner "was misquoted" and has nothing to do with the hard labor program, let alone has knowledge of Brown's probationary duties.
"Our city council members do not have administrative authority or responsibilities," the source said. "No city council member would be associated with any city management program."
Furthermore, James Mercante, a spokesman for the Richmond Police Department, tells E! News that a plan is not yet in place to protect Brown, the patrol and bystanders from the media and paparazzi coverage the "Run It!" singer's presence will surely bring.
Maybe they should ask Boy George.
"The strategy that is in place right now is to not confirm when he is to start," Mercante said. "If they do have other strategies, we’re not privy to them now."
Conner did not return repeated calls seeking comment.
Brown, who earlier expressed a desire to get started asap on his community service to make amends for his ways, said through a rep this week that he does not plan to participate in a Michael Jackson tribute in Vienna later this month so he can focus on his probation.
