One of American Idol's angriest and most memorable contestants is dead.

Alexis Cohen, mockingly dismissed by Simon Cowell as the Green Goblin, was found dead in the New Jersey shore community of Seaside Heights, according The Asbury Park Press. The 25-year-old was struck and killed by a car in what authorities are calling an apparent homicide.

Cohen rose to reality stardom after her 2007 Idol audition resulted in an infamous showdown with Cowell, who compared her unfavorably to the Spider-Man villain. Her subsequent bird-flipping rant, in which she claimed to "march to the beat of a different drummer" and vowed to "leave with [her] dignity," became a viral video sensation, spawning several YouTube remixes.

Undeterred, she returned to audition in 2008 and was again shown the door.

Deputy Chief Michael Mohel of the Ocean County Prosecutors Office says that an autopsy revealed that the Allentown, Pa., native suffered chest, abdominal and closed head injuries as a result of the collison.

Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into Cohen's death, asking anyone with information on the hit and run to come forward.
