The American Idol season may be over, but Paula Abdul's jabs at Simon Cowell certainly are not.

Last night on The Late Show with David Letterman, the sometimes singer was chatting about her future at the judges table. And that prompted the host to bring up Cowell's threats to depart the hit series.

"Of course he's lying," Letterman said.

"You've got it right," she said. "He's just trumping me! He has another year left [on his contract]. I don't know why he's doing that."

Now, as for the rumors that she won't be back for season eight…

"I never said that. I just said I'm not sure," she claims. "I love my job. I do, I love what I do. I feel that I've had a really wonderful journey with the show."

Thankfully, she clarifies her situation shortly thereafter.

"It's called, um, negotiating," she admits.

In a much more humbling moment on the show, the star gives a play-by-play of how she wound up in Sacha Baron Cohen's Brüno, and her horror when she realized she had been pranked.
