Details surrounding Alexis Arquette's shocking death have emerged.

The 47-year-old transgender actress—who has acted in more than 50 films spanning her decades-long career, notably in Last Exit to Brooklyn and as a Boy George impersonator in The Wedding Singer—died from a heart attack, E! News confirms.

We've obtained Arquette's death certificate, which lists the heart attack as the immediate cause of death, and also reveals that the star suffered from a bacterial infection of the heart three weeks prior to her cardiac arrest on Sept. 11. The certificate also states that Arquette was living with HIV for 29 years, which was noted as an underlying cause of death.

Alexis' brother Richmond Arquette confirmed the news of his sibling's death on his Facebook page earlier this month, writing, "Our brother Robert, who became our brother Alexis, who became our sister Alexis, passed this morning September 11 at 12:32 a.m. He was surrounded by all of his brothers and sisters, and one of his nieces and several other loved ones...As per his wishes, we cheered at the moment that he transitioned to another dimension."
