Crystal Hefner is finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

This has been a challenging year for the 30-year-old's health. Hugh Hefner's wife revealed on social media in March that she was battling Lyme disease and toxic mold, but after a few months, the model and DJ began to realize that her symptoms aligned with something else—a condition called Breast Implant Illness.

Hefner took to her Facebook account to explain her unfortunate situation. "Over time, implants (both silicone and saline) break down and wreak havoc on your body," she explained. "The shell on silicone and saline implants is comprised of silicone and over 40 other toxic chemicals: tin, zinc, cadmium, mercury, arsenic, formaldehyde and talc to name a few. Your immune system is constantly fighting them, leaving you vulnerable to other illnesses."

The star had both of her implants removed in June and shared a photo on Instagram today showing definite signs of improvement.

"The new me. Happier and healthier," Crystal writes. "Using 2016 to reclaim my health and embrace and love myself for the real me. Thank you for the overwhelming support on my post yesterday, I love you."

The road to recovery wasn't easy for Hefner, however.

She wrote on Facebook, "I've had days in 2016 when I couldn't get out of bed. I've felt such despair knowing life was happening all around me but I couldn't participate."

The illness adversely affected her career, as well. "I had to miss my Summer DJ residency at my favorite Vegas spot, the Rehab pool at The Hard Rock Hotel," she explains. "The fatigue was so severe that I could barely leave the house or drive. I was afraid to get up there in front of a crowd and go blank with brain fog."

Crystal's health difficulties echoed former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Hadid's.

Yolanda was diagnosed with Lyme disease and also removed her implants after she too discovered excessive silicone leakage in her chest, which in turn weakened her immune system.

Both stars have publicly shared their struggles, with the goal to spread awareness to the public.

Crystal ended her reflection on Facebook, "If you know anyone with implants (breast, buttock, or any other type) who hasn't felt well, (low thyroid, fibromyalgia, food intolerance, immune disorders, insomnia, fatigue, aches, pains, anxiety, brain fog) please let them know that Implant Illness is real and could be the problem".
